Back in Business!

And I'm back!  It's been an insane couple of weeks - I've been super busy at work, not to mention moving several states away and a "vacation" in the mix.  Unfortunately my vacation didn't turn out to be the restful vacation I needed, and instead I worked at least a few hours every day but one.  Boo.  So I'm still stressed and overworked, but that's beside the point.  I am now officially a New Jerseyian (?) and working in the big city, in downtown Philly.  Due to the insanity of my schedule, I haven't really had time to meet anyone or absorb anything going on, but I have noticed that people dress up a lot more, at least compared to my little world back in Arlington.  I am pretty much the only woman who wears pants in the office, and I definitely feel I need to step up my game now.  But until I actually get settled and my dressing room (aka spare bedroom) set up, my usual uniform of pseudo professional will have to do.

We interrupt our regular programming...

...while I move to New Jersey!  I will be pretty sporadic for the next few weeks, as I settle in, and then take a vacation for a week back home in Michigan.  I will probably post a little in that time, but daily postings won't probably start back up until the 25th.  See you all on the flip side!

Feeling Stripey, Take 2 - 8/7/14

Even when most of my clothes aren't packed away, I tend to really like certain things, and I typically wear at least one garment once during the week and once during the weekend, which is what I did with my stripey sweater.  Last time though I paired it with black, but this time with navy, because it's that super dark navy that doesn't really look blue unless you look really closely at it against black.  I actually am not a fan of that navy, and thought this shirt was black when I bought it, but it works.  It's a nice way to mix things up, if nothing else.

Ruffles - 8/6/14

Breaking out a more feminine look than usual, I really like the shape of this dress (hard to tell from the hanger photo).  Although it means I have to use my shawl as a blanket at work because my legs freeze. :)

Thinking Ahead - Black Strappy Sandals

You may or may not have noticed that a certain pair of shoes has a disproportionate amount of wear lately, and no, it's not because I've packed all my other shoes.

Black strappy sandals have been a staple of my wardrobe for several years now, and I think I'm currently on my 4th or 5th pair.  Because they are a staple, I like them to be high quality and last for at least a few years, but this current pair has passed its second anniversary and has been worn 68 times, according to my spreadsheet, and I bought them for $69, so they've put in their time.  I'm hoping to keep them up through the end of the summer, but now is a good time to start thinking about replacing them, since I can hopefully get a new pair on sale, and I hate the feeling of having to get a pair of shoes NOW when the summer starts, because that usually ends up with me stressing out and getting a pair I don't like.  I also tend to hate new trends in shoes, and am a year or two behind in shoe styles, so it works out well. :)

A quick trip through the selections on Zappos brings up several options, but I haven't nailed down what I want them to look like exactly yet.  The main criteria that are constant through all my pairs of shoes is that they have a strap high up across the top of my foot (I have a weird bump there and I just think it flatters my foot the most), a strap around the back (I hate sandals slipping off), and can be worn in semi-dressy and casual situations.  Oh, and they most definitely have to be comfortable.  The vast majority of black sandals that I purchase and then return (thanks to the ease of online shopping) are because they don't have enough support or just aren't comfortable.  Check out below for my current favorites:

A little bit blue - 8/4/14

I'm having to skip over Sunday's outfit, because apparently I don't have a picture of that shirt, but rest assured, it was good. :)  I'll repeat it sometime soon, so you'll see it don't worry.  I also promise that once I move I will try to take actual photos of the outfits on me, as opposed to pieces of the individual items - so stay tuned for that in the next week or so!  Monday was a classic outfit of mine, which includes a shirt I bought the only time I went out shopping on Black Friday a few years ago.

Feeling Stripy - 8/2/14

I love stripes of all kinds, and I love this shirt, but something about the ruffles on the sleeves looked a little too girly for me, so I took my scissors to them and now have ruffle-less sleeves!

An Outfit for an Important Day - 8/1/14

What do you wear for signing your life away and buying your first house?!?!?  A black shirt and jeans, like the vast majority of my days not spent in an office.

Black, White, and Purple - 7/31/14

I've owned this shirt for probably close to a decade now, and it's one of my favorites.  Black and white is heavily represented in my wardrobe, but I just love this pattern.  I will be really sad on the day that I have to retire it.
