What's tan and navy all over? Me! - 9/30/14

While it's still warmer than normal, I decided to wear my favorite fall blazer today.  While the neckline of my shirt is not technically on the favorite list, I tried to mimic a v-neck a bit by wearing a longer pendant necklace.  The jury is still out on whether or not it works, but I figured I would give it a shot.

I don't usually do a close-up, but I thought I might start, to show my make-up and jewelry a bit better.  Today is a more natural make-up day, with a bit of CC cream, brown eyeliner, mascara, a touch of bronzer on my cheeks (I'm not ready to give up my tan yet), and lip gloss.  Wow, that's actually a lot for a natural look, but really I don't wear much more than that, just brighter colors if I want to amp it up a bit.

Fall is such a tease - 9/29/14

Here we are, 2 days from October, and it's 80 degrees out today.  It's quite lovely, but I would like some fall weather before too long!  I started out with a long-sleeve shirt on, but was too warm, so switched to a sleeveless shirt.

Casual Friday - 9/26/14

So I decided to do casual Friday my way, and wear nice jeans to work.  This week there were a few others in jeans, so maybe it's just not as prevalent here, but some people get it.

Gearing up for fall

While my sewing studio needs a significant amount of work still (namely, John needs to build me a lot of furniture and do some electrical work), it's set up enough that I can finally get back into sewing.  I dove back into it yesterday with a super simple project, a tweedy wool vest for fall.  I'm terrible about both buying fabric and it sitting there for at least months, sometimes years before I sew anything with it, as well as I typically don't plan my sewing projects seasonally.  This time I was so on top of things, and sewed up a nice vest for fall with fabric I just got in the mail last week.

All About the Shoes - 9/24/14

So, despite the fact you can't really see them in this photo, this outfit is all about the shoes.  I bought them on clearance at TJ Maxx a month or two ago, and had no idea where I would wear them, but they are fabulous.  Shiny silver wingtip oxfords.  Need I say more.  Random strangers have already complimented me on them, which is almost as good as my male engineer co-workers commenting on my shoes (it takes a lot for them to notice shoes, primarily 5" heels).

Revamped Skirt - 9/23/14

This skirt started out life as a dress that I made a few years ago, but I made it a bit too small, and the armholes were really uncomfortable.  But I loved the fabric, so I just chopped off the top half, and added elastic to the waistline.  It is functional at the moment, but I still want to adjust the waist to be a bit more professional looking.

The Key - 9/22/14

I didn't get around to taking my daily photo yesterday until late at night, so I had shed my knee-high boots and cardigan at that point, but here is my outfit.  Not too bad, but nothing super special either.

Amping up the Tan in my Wardrobe - 9/17/14

I've never been a fan of brown - it's just not my color.  But over the past couple of years I've been slowly adding to my camel/tan collection, and it's growing on me.  I'm still not entirely sure if it looks good on me, but it just signals fall, in my mind.  I had high hopes for pairing this loose sweater I just got from H&M with my two brown patterned knit pencil skirts, but the proportions just aren't quite right.  I haven't given up on it yet though, I think it will look good with skinny pants, so I'll try that next.

Playing catch-up - In a Tweedy Mood - 9/15/14

It's been a few days since I've posted, so this will just be a round-up summary.  I spent most of the weekend gardening and going to home depot to get mulch (two trips) - oh the joys of home ownership. :)  Needless to say, I was a scrub for most of the weekend, so no outfit summaries from Saturday and Sunday.  Monday's outfit was a little frumpy as well, mostly because I don't think I like the high neckline with a jacket, and the pants were too loose in the thighs.  It's a problem I have a lot, because my waist to hip proportion is not as big as normal sizes, so if it fits in the waist, it's usually too big in the thighs.  But since I have no social life in New Jersey, I'm hoping I will pick back up with my running, and take care of that problem.

I Love a Good Striped Tee - 9/12/14

So despite having worked there for over a month now, today is my first Friday actually in the Philly office.  I hadn't asked anyone about casual Friday, so I figured I would just go a little more casual than normal and see what everyone else wore, as I had a suspicion it wasn't like the old office where everyone wore jeans on Friday.  I was right by the way.  Silly people.  Also, while my pants look grey for some reason, they are actually much more green in real life, which makes it a way more exciting outfit, in my opinion. :)

Another new discovery!

I am not a photogenic person, so I don't like to be in photos usually.  So it's interesting that just after 4 days of taking photos of myself, I've stumbled upon two discoveries (the first that I need to tone down the make-up, which I've done today).  Somehow looking a photo is just different than looking in the mirror, I'm not sure what it is.

Anyways, today's discovery is about necklines.  While I like to think I am a decent dresser, I'm not really sure what looks good on me, and I'm not good at identifying styles that are yay/nay.  But, I can say now that I don't think wide necklines (like boat-necks) look good, and a v-neck or narrow scoop look much better.  Subconsciously, I think I did know that, but it's nice to definitely identify it.

Getting there...9/11/14

I've broken my slump I think, and I feel much better about today's outfit.  Maybe I just need to suck it up and wear skirts every day, and that will make me feel more appropriately dressy.  Which is funny, because I'm wearing a t-shirt and a knit skirt.  I also broke out my boots for the first time this year, despite the forecast of 87 degrees for today.  It was cool this morning, and it's officially mid-September, whatever weather.com has to say about it.

A Little Lacey - 9/8/14

I finally got around  to going upstairs to my sewing studio, and "unpacked", aka, took everything out of the boxes and sat it on the floor.  But in doing so, I did somewhat set up my photo corner, which means I used my gorilla pod tripod to attach my camera to the stair railing, and call it good.  I've taken photos the past three days, and have realized in the process that I need to to tone down the make-up - it's getting a little out of control.  Anyways, welcome to my actual outfit diary now!

Pedicure Time, Take 2 - 9/7/14

So it was a beautiful day on Sunday, so I actually managed to make it over to the nail salon to get my pedicure.  I did have to wear a pair of shorts I'm not crazy about, but it was worth it.  I'm a big fan of the lightweight button-down over shorts look, but not of the individual pieces here.

Pedicure Time - 9/6/14

My big plans for the day on Saturday was to get a pedicure, as well as it was super hot, so I wore a simple knit dress (pants are annoying for pedicures and I don't like any of my shorts).  I didn't end up going because it was too hot for me to get up the energy to walk the 6 blocks to the nail salon, but I was still comfy. :)  Also, it's probably obvious, but this picture is not from that day, and I did not include the shirt underneath, the tights, or the boots.

Blue, Black, and Dots all Over - 9/4/14

Another day, another pair of black pants.  This wasn't my most inspired outfit, and I'm not sure how I feel about the shirt, but it's good enough for the office.

Purple and Black - 9/2/14

After a delightful long weekend, back to the daily grind.  A riff on the daily uniform.

Trying a New Neutral - 9/1/14

We spent Labor Day hitting furniture sales, and it was incredibly hot, so I went with my simple knit dress, which is super comfy.  I think it's also flattering on me, which is a win-win in my book.  I went with black sandals instead of the tan I've worn before, but I'm still not sure what I like the best.

Traveling Attire, Day 2 - 8/29/14

So I have managed to get even more behind, but the light at the end of the tunnel is visible, in terms of my work load, so I'll attempt to catch up on the outfits.  I may skip a few days here and there just to get caught up, but it is important for me to finish up my work trip outfits, because I managed to make an epic mistake.   When I opened up my suitcase to get out my clothes for the day, it turned out I somehow forgot my pants.  I regularly forget pajamas, or even my toothbrush, but I haven't done something on this scale since I went to visit my college roommate over 10 years ago in California and forgot my bathing suit bottoms.  It turns out that making a change of plans at 4:30 in the morning is not a good idea.  I took out one pair of pants, intending to replace them, but apparently I just never put the second pair in.  Luckily, I was staying with my friend Dalia and she came to the rescue with a spare pair of pants - I seriously have no idea what I would have done otherwise.  Anyway, the moral of the story is to make sure you pack your pants.

Traveling Attire - 8/28/14

I am a bit behind, due to traveling to DC for meetings Thursday and Friday, and then focusing on enjoying myself over the weekend. :) Thursday I had a super early morning (Alarm time - 4:15 am), to take the train down to DC for an all-day meeting.  I normally wouldn't chose a skirt for traveling, but it was hot and I wanted to be dressy, so here it is.
